“Sleep Call”


You spun around the bed nervously, unable to get comfortable. The covers felt like they were suffocating you and the pillow resembled a rock one would find on a mountain. Why were you being tortured like this?....
The answer was simple. Your boyfriend had been gone for five days now. He was traveling for work and he was to return in one week from this very moment.

But that truly wasn’t your problem. You just couldn’t sleep. It was terrible. And you could not detect the reason behind this. You had eaten normally all those days. You were not sick or dehydrated. You certainly were not cold since you were wrapped in those warm covers he had brought with him when he had moved in, and you weren’t too warm because if you were, you would be covered in sweat.

You sighed tiredly.

“I wish Zoro was h-”   was all you could mumble to yourself before the phone rang. You picked up the small device from your bedside table and pressed it against your ear.

“Hello?...”

“Hi (y/n), are you okay?”  your lover quickly asked, immediately realising something was off with you.

“Yes Zoro, I am okay. Just a bit tired is all.”

“You sound more than tired. What time is it there right now?”

You turned your head slightly to look at the clock on the wall.

“....It is 01:00 am.”

“Oh my...Over here it is still early in the evening. Did i wake you up?”

“ Honestly....I wish you had...”
“...Oh...”

That was all he said before you heard a faint chuckle from the other end of the line. Then his sweet voice echoed through the phone again.

“I think i know what’s wrong. Do you really miss me that much that you can’t sleep?...Just because I’m not there to cuddle you?..”

You grumbled. Fuck dammit, why did he always read you like an open book, before you even managed to understand your own feelings?

“Maybe that’s the only explanation. Can you just...”

“..Talk to you until you fall asleep? Sure.”

A smile took place on your lips. That is why you loved him. Because he was your soulmate. He could always make it all better for you.

“I love you.”

“So do I, (y/n). But lay down now as I blabber about my trip. I promise you, you will be asleep in no time.”

And then you chuckled and did as he said. You pulled the covers over your head, pressing the device against your ear with all the power you had. Zoro talked and talked, until he could hear your rhythmic, calm breaths, sign you were finally sleeping.

       Yes, even now that you were in your dreamland, you remembered another reason why you found him so cute. The reason was that, no matter how cold and stiff he looked around others, he was always talkative with you.

Because you were the only one that the swordsman truly trusted.

The only one that actually wanted to listen to him

The only one he truly loved.
